Arabic Letters Guide

A comprehensive guide to all 28 Arabic letters with their forms, pronunciation and examples. Learn isolated, initial, medial and final forms.

What is the Arabic Alphabet?

The Arabic alphabet consists of 28 letters and is written from right to left. Each letter has four different forms depending on its position in a word: isolated, initial, medial, and final.

Letter Categories

Arabic letters are divided into three categories based on their articulation points (makhraj): interdental letters (ث، ذ، ظ), emphatic letters (خ، ص، ض، ط، ظ، غ، ق), and soft letters (all others). This distinction is crucial for correct pronunciation.

Learning Method

With the Elifba method, letters are learned sequentially. First their isolated forms are recognized, then initial-medial-final forms are practiced. Correct pronunciation is reinforced by listening to and repeating each letter's sound.

Practice Tips

Regular practice of 10-15 minutes per day is the most effective method. You can learn each letter interactively using letter cards and games in the QuranKids app.
