Elifba is a term derived from the first two letters of the Arabic alphabet, Alif and Ba. It traditionally refers to the introductory book and method for teaching Quran reading. Also known as 'Qaida' or 'Nooraniah', this concept has been used as a fundamental literacy teaching tool in the Islamic world for hundreds of years.
Elifba Teaching Stages
Classic Elifba instruction follows these stages: 1) Recognition of plain letter forms, 2) Learning beginning-middle-end writing forms, 3) Learning basic vowel marks (fatha, kasra, damma), 4) Learning sukun and shadda, 5) Tanween (double fatha, double kasra, double damma), 6) Madd letters (elongation with alif, waw, ya), 7) Basic tajweed rules and verse reading.
